The trailer for Natalie Portman’s next movie, The Other Woman, is out, and I’m not sure I’m feeling it.
According to the HuffingtonPost, “Portman plays an office assistant that has an affair with her boss that ends up in him divorcing his first wife and marrying her. The film centers on the loss of Portman's newborn child, and the rocky road she faces in creating a bond with her young step-son.”
So it’s a real pick-me-up!
I dunno ... aside from the fact that I can’t bear to watch movies about children dying, I always have a hard time believing an actress playing a mom who isn’t a mom in real life. I know that’s totally unfair of me...and no, I didn’t feel that way before I became a mom myself...and no I don’t have a problem watching an actress pretend other things, like being a CIA agent or a stripper. But being a mom? Nope. I realize that probably sounds totally insufferable, but I can’t help it! There’s always a part of me that’s like, lady, you have NO IDEA. Jennifer Aniston in Marley and Me, playing a postpartum wreck? Hilarious.

I will say that I’m excited to see one of my all-time favorite actresses Lisa Kudrow, even though her role looks pretty small. Small but mighty! She plays the wronged wife, and mother of Natalie Portman’s stepson. Gah can you imagine being usurped by Natalie Portman? It makes me stabby just thinking about it!
Take a look at the trailer:
What do you think? It’s interesting that Portman just revealed she herself is actually preggars, isn’t it? I’m sure that wasn’t planned, but it does make it more interesting to watch.
It’s also a bold move to make a film about what happens AFTER adultery breaks up a home, no? We’ve been fixated all year on all the cheating scandals, and poor LeAnn Rimes was vilified after Shape put her husband-stealing body on their cover. But really, life does go on -- not all cheaters are horrible people who deserve to suffer the rest of their lives. Right?
You can watch The Other Woman on On Demand on January 1st, or wait for limited release in early February. Will you be checking it out?
