What’s With the Wacky Shoulder Pads, Naomi Watts?
Naomi Watts went for an… INTERESTING look at the Madrid premiere of ‘The Impossible.’ Can someone explain these wacky shoulder pads to us? Please?
Let me preface this post by saying that I love Naomi Watts. She’s one helluva an actress, and her sense of style is usually impeccable. I say “usually,” though, because… well, how else do you account for the incredibly wacky shoulder pad things she’s wearing here?
This lovely little getup is what Naomi wore to the Madrid premiere of her new movie, The Impossible, on Monday night, and I’m really having a tough time understanding it. To be fair, the dress is Marchesa, and generally I’m a big Marchesa fan; Naomi then finished off the look with a clutch from Louis Vuitton and a pair of white and gold Louboutins.
But someone please tell me: What on EARTH are those… THINGS on her shoulders?! Not only do they give her an extremely bizarre silhouette as viewed from a distance, but moreover, once you get a little closer… well, take a look for yourself:
Are they… giant roses? Maybe that’s what they’re supposed to be, but to be honest, they look more like the gaping mouths of hungry, shoulder-dwelling aliens to me. The texture of the dress is interesting, and it fits her well, but those puffy shoulders just kill the look for me.
The Impossible, which also stars Ewan McGregor and Tom Holland, is based on a foreign family’s experience of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. It’s due out in US cinemas on December 21.
Tell us: What do you think of Naomi’s big-shouldered look?
