Donna Karan’s fertile mind creates high drama for both her lines: DKNY and Donna Karan. DKNY (in my mind) is the edgier, younger sister. She’s the one who lives in a hugeass loft somewhere downtown. She knows all the cool clubs, the best restos and art galleries. Her line of suitors makes you swoon. And when she smiles, you realize that underneath all that smart tailoring and to-die-for clothing, she’s a fun gal with a killer sense of humor.

For fall, our DKNY gal is into sleek, polished yet minimalistic luxury. Croco-stamped leather, wide black leather corsets, thick plush shearling, wool and fur kept the models toasty warm on the runway.

What do you mean “toasty warm?” Well, the show was held at Cedar Lake, an event space that’s home to the Cedar Lake Ballet company. It’s wide box with large glass doors. After everyone had found their seats, the lights went down, the music kicked in the doors were flung open. As bitter winds teased the people sitting closest to the doors, a yellow cab pulled up. And then, and then ...the models stalked on through the labyrinthine runway—it was almost maze-like and afforded everyone the perfect view.

The models and their slick backed ponytails were dressed in trumpet skirts matched with boxy jackets or tightly tailored blazers. Stovepipe straight pants with jackets and heels also made an appearance. Amidst the sea of black, navy, gray and berry showed up, starker for all the contrast.

For evening, the look was minimalist too -- a stunning royal blue long sleeved gown, a strapless black cocktail dress with a flippy skirt, a sheer paneled bright berry dress perfect for that special date.
