It’s always hard to tell what Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are really up to. These two have been pros at tricking the media since the beginning! Remember their Mexican wedding that wasn’t really official – prompting a special Hills episode featuring their “real” nuptials? Heidi and Spencer had this planned all along! Getting married once would have been for amateurs, not for the masters of media. Getting “married” twice provided tons of tabloid headlines and prolonged the story more than just a one hit ceremony.

It seems that Spencer is up to his old tricks again with his new threats to release a sex tape and write a tell-all book about his ex. Although they are supposedly over, TMZ spotted the couple together in a hotel in Costa Rica over the weekend – and Spencer ran away from the cameras, hiding behind his beard and – two dogs which he carried while racing down stairs to avoid cameras! What is he hiding for? Are he and Heidi “faking” their split?

If they are, they are certainly putting a lot of effort into making it seem real! The sex tape announcement sparked a Twitter war, with Heidi tweeting "@spencerpratt  F U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” and she even reached out to her former Hills friend Lauren Conrad, saying “@LaurenConrad you were right! Spencer is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sucky!!!”

Spencer of course chimed in, saying: “@heidimontag needs to grow up.”

So is this war between Heidi and Spencer real? Judging from their past, I think not. Stay tuned: evil genius Spencer will surely surprise us! Who knows what this tabloid mastermind is cooking up – perhaps a reconciliation, a televised wedding again, a baby – and all with their very own magazine covers and television interviews. Although the papers have been filed, watch out – Heidi and Spencer aren’t over yet!
