These are what I like to call, “the love ‘em and leave ‘em” relationships. No Facebook drama ensues. No suicidal phone calls at three in the morning. Just a good old fashioned break-up.

Cue 2011. Nothing is simple, anymore. In the modern world we have created, with social media networks interconnecting us 24/7 and cell phones that let us send instant “sex-t” messages, it’s almost impossible to completely remove yourself from someone’s life. So, what are the new rules of engagement? Or, in this case, “un-engagement”? When is it appropriate to stay in touch, and when is it time to change your Facebook status from “it’s complicated” to “single?”

Let’s take a look at some of the situations one can find themselves in during a break-up and see if you know when it’s okay to stay friends with your ex, and when it’s time to join the witness protection program.
