I have long harbored a secret desire to have a Jack Russell Terrier as a pet. It all goes back to Frasier: Let’s face it. Eddie was awesome.

You know who’s also awesome? Uggie. If you’ve seen The Artist, then you already know exactly how awesome Uggie is. And if you haven’t—you’re about to find out!

Uggie, you see, was rejected by his first two owners as being too wild. He was on the verge of being sent to the pound when fate intervened: Animal trainer Omar Von Muller got wind of Uggie from a couple of his friends. At first, Omar only intended to foster Uggie until he found him a new home, but ultimately, Uggie proved to be too loveable to part with. Said Omar of the dog:

“He was a crazy, very energetic puppy, And who knows what would have happened to him if he gone to the dog pound. But he was very smart and very willing to work. One of the most important things is that he was not afraid of things. That is what makes or breaks a dog in the movies, whether they are afraid of lights, and noises and being on sets. He gets rewards, like sausages, to encourage him to perform, but that is only a part of it. He works hard.”

And now all of Uggie’s hard work is paying off: Not only has he gotten great publicity thanks to his turn in The Artist, but even better, he’s earned two Golden Collar Award nominations. Recently, Uggie and Omar stopped by The Ellen Degeneres Show to say hi to Ellen—and to show off! Uggie skateboards, plays dead, gets bashful, and more, and it’s all unbearably cute. Take a look here:

Who else wants to steal Uggie for their very own? I know I do! But Uggie has a very happy home with Omar, his wife, and their six-year-old daughter, so maybe I’ll leave him be. I can always dream, though!

Here’s wishing Uggie the very best of luck during awards season!
