Survey Says: He Must Have a Job… Or We Won’t Marry Him!
A new survey reveals that women don’t want no scrub.
A recent survey from YourTango and ForbesWoman has revealed what us ladies have known since Eve walked through the garden in her birthday suit: we are superwomen! Our vibrant careers are important to us, we believe in the power of motherhood, and we have zero interest in a man without a j-o-b. You read it right. A man without an income is not welcome in our beds.
According to the results of the survey, which questioned 625 women over the course of three months, 75 percent of women won’t marry a man who is unemployed. Let’s face it: we’re in a depressing financial recession. If we’re going to consider a future with our prince charming, he has to have more to offer than his gorgeous smile and six-pack.
YourTango’s founder and CEO, Andrea Miller, agrees. “From money woes to resentment, joblessness can create great strain on relationships,” she says in a press release. “Before women enter into a lifetime commitment, they want to feel secure in what their partner can bring to the table.”
That wasn’t all this career and love survey exposed about women. Here are three other unique revelations:
*June Cleaver is extinct. Long gone are the days of women being fulfilled with baking pies and cleaning our houses until the floors sparkle with Mr. Clean. In fact, 32 percent of women in relationships make more money than their partners. How’s that for social progress?
*You can begin planning your destination wedding now. You won’t be single after all. 77 percent of us believe we can simultaneously have a fulfilling relationship and family life, as well as a successful career.
*Is it important to have time to yourself? Survey says, yes! Spending time alone is more appealing to us ladies than being with our partners, children, or families. Schedule a spa date — you deserve it.
Tell us: do you agree with the results of this survey? Would you marry an unemployed man?
