Yes to Tomatoes and Cucumbers

My love of the Yes to Tomatoes skinc are line has been well-documented in the past. The brainchild of the Yes to Carrots creators, Yes to Tomatoes goes a long way towards keeping my acne-prone skin in control; however, since it’s 98 percent natural, it does it without all of the harshness and irritation that comes along with most of the anti-acne products I’ve tried. Why didn’t anyone think of it sooner? I don’t know, but I sure am glad that someone finally did! You can probably imagine, then, how excited I was when a handful of new Yes to Tomatoes products landed in our mailbox—along with a couple of Yes to Cucumbers things to boot! Naturally, I couldn’t wait to test them both out. Lucky me!

First up: The Yes to Tomatoes Acne Control Gel Cleanser ($9.99, yestocarrots.com) and Repairing Acne Lotion ($14.99, yestocarrots.com). Yes to Tomatoes gets its miraculous abilities from two primary ingredients, tomatoes (duh) and salicylic acid. Tomatoes are rich in Lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that helps protect skin from environmental agents that can contribute to clogged pores and breakouts. It also boasts anti-inflammatory properties, which help keep puffy redness down to a minimum and encouraging a balanced and clesar complexion. And finally, as if all that that wasn’t already enough, the vitamins tomatoes are full of help control sebum secretion, preventing it from overloading your pores. Salicylic acid, meanwhile, is a clinically proven ingredient that encourages skin shedding (it sounds gross, I know, but trust me, it’s totally necessary), prevents bacteria from clogging pores, and helps break down blackheads, whiteheads, and a whole mess of other types of acne. The result of these two ingredients combined? Skin care magic!

I’ve been using the Gel Cleanser and Repairing Acne Lotion for a little over a week now, and just like last time I test drove Yes to Tomatoes, I’m already seeing a dramatic difference. Unlike the Daily Pore Scrub from the last round, the Gel Cleanser doesn’t… well, scrub. What I mean by that is that there aren’t any exfoliating elements in it; but that’s a plus: It’s even gentler on your skin than the scrub. It also features a blend of ginger root and bisabolol that halts breakouts in their tracks. A squirt of the cleanser rinsed with a little warm water, and you’re on your way to happy skin! To finish, massage in a little bit of the Repairing Acne Lotion. This super light lotion has ginger root and bisabolol like the cleanser, as well as witch hazel to fight an overabundance of oil. I found a little goes a long way with this one—just a tiny pump of the lotion is enough to hit your whole face. If you find your skin is a little dry after using it, you can also layer your favorite moisturizer on top—it’s that light. Ta-da!

However, even the gentlest acne-fighting products can ravage your skin after a while, especially in the dead of winter (though thankfully it’s finally getting warmer). As such, I probably shouldn’t have been surprised when my face started to feel a little irritated. But that’s where the Yes to Cucumbers Gentle Milk Cleanser ($8.99, yestocarrots.com) and Calming Night Cream ($14.99, yestocarrots.com) come in! When my skin started feeling tight and itchy, I switch over to these two beauties for a night, and they worked wonders when it came to rehydrating it while still keeping it clean and clear.

Here’s how they work: The Gentle Milk Cleanser cleanses your skin without stripping it, and thanks to the use of cucumbers, aloe vera, soy proteins, and green tea, it does a marvelous job. The rejuvenating vitamins contained within cucumbers help soothe and soften skin, while their cooling properties keeps skin supple and feeling fresh; the aloe vera protects against bacteria; the soy proteins add hydration; and the antioxidant-rich green tea helps treat sensitive skin. Once you’ve given your face a wash with the Milk Cleanser, rub in a little of the Calming Night Cream to repair and moisturize your skin while you sleep. In addition to the cucumber and aloe vera also present in the Milk Cleanser, the Calming Night Cream also has chamomile and grapeseed oil to soothe and hydrate skin. Aaaaah! Now isn’t that better? My skin certainly thought so. It immediately calmed down and felt refreshed and ready for more when I woke up the next day.

Do I have a salad face right now? Well, yes, but whatever—my skin has never been happier! You can find both Yes to Tomatoes and Yes to Cucumbers at Targets and Walmarts everywhere; you can also order them online at yestocarrots.com.

Tomatoes and cucumbers? Yes please!
