17-year-old Jordyn Wieber isn’t your average teen. A champ of a gymnast, Jordyn is the reigning All-Around World Champion, the US Senior National Champion, and a three-time winner of the AT&T America Cup—AND she’s competing for the good old US of A at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London this summer! And as if that wasn’t enough, she’s also just been named a Beauty Ambassador for P&G Beauty. P&G, which sponsors USA Gymnastics and the US Women’s Senior National Team, is pledging to help raise $400,000 to support youth sports organizations across the country—an excellent cause, indeed!
We recently got the chance to sit down and chat with Jordyn about her Olympic dreams, a typical day in her life, her beauty secrets, and more. Oh, and did we mention that we’ve got a killer giveaway featuring an Olympic Beauty Prize Pack chock full of P&G goodies and worth a grand total of $120? Read on for all the deets!
BettyConfidential: Did you always dream of doing this? How old were you when you knew you wanted to be a gymnast?
Jordyn Wieber: I started doing gymnastics when I was 4 and then starting competing at age 6. I quickly exceled through the levels and earned the title of elite gymnast at age 10, which is when I decided that I wanted to try to make an Olympic team.
BC: Describe a typical day in your life:
JW: I wake up at 6:30 AM and go to practice for 2.5 hours. Then I have school for about 3 hours and I go back to practice for another 4.5 hours.
BC: What’s the hardest thing about pursuing this dream?
JW: The hardest thing is overcoming injuries and learning to push through the healing process.
BC: The most rewarding?
JW: The most rewarding part is doing well and knowing that all of my hard work has paid off to achieve my accomplishments.
BC: What’s your advice to young women with dreams of something big?
JW: Stay dedicated and never give up.
BC: What kind of a diet regime do you have to follow?
JW: I always try to fuel my body for energy with lots of protein and veggies. I also make sure to drink plenty of water – it’s so important to stay hydrated.
BC: Your favorite indulgence?
JW: Frozen yogurt.
BC: What’s your beauty routine like?
JW: I usually wake up in the morning and wash my face and moisturize with Olay Pore Minimizing Cleanser + Scrub and Olay Complete All Day Moisture Lotion/Cream UV Defense. If I’m just going to practice then I’ll throw on some COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara and tame any flyaways with Pantene Pro-V Anti-Humidity Hairspray. If I’m going to school then I usually use foundation and lip gloss as well.
BC: Who inspires you? Who are your role models?
JW: [Olympic gymnast and medalist] Nastia Liukin inspires me and my role model is my older sister. I also continue to draw inspiration from my mom and girlfriends.

For Summer Olympics, I love to watch swimming/diving events and gymnastics. For Winter Olympics, ice skating, hockey and skiing/snowboarding events are a must-watch. My most fave part is the backstory on the athletes, win or lose.

Definitely the gymnastics–the athletes are just amazing and they really inspire me!
My favorite is gymnastics. I love watching the grace, poise, and confidence these girls display while performing extremely difficult and dangerous skills in front of thousands, if not millions of people. Also, the experience gymnastics gives these girls is wonderful. If they can tackle doing their skills and routines in a highly stressful situation, imagine what they can take on and overcome in “the real world”!!!
Swimming is my favorite – i love to do it myself and it’s amazing to watch people so good at it.
My favorite has always been gymnastics. I admire all the girls who spend so much time for this sport. I also like swimming and diving!
gymnastics for sure! its so entertaining and amazing to see what they can do with their bodies!
I love watching sports especially gymnastics as my girls participated when quite young. The diving is amazing with control and skill to make tiny splash after a clean entrance into the water. Seeing sthletes extend themselves to the best of their ability inspires me to exercise more.
I love the high dive. Since I cannot swim, I am in awe of how graceful the divers are both in the air off of the springboard and in the water.

My favorite Olympic sport has to be synchronized diving. It boggles my mind when a really good pair is so perfectly in sync and there is hardly a splash when they enter the water. I also love gymnastics because I can’t even do a cartwheel, let alone all that those athletes can do.
I have always loved gymnastics. It is amazing what these girls and guys can do, how strong they are, amd the commitment they make!
