We’ve just gotten word of the hairiest situation of the year! Apparently, after New England organizers heard that the ‘stache was back in town, they decided it was about time to celebrate that good ole upper lip fuzz.

How? Well, if you moustache, with a film festival. Facial hair devotees will head to Portland, Maine on March 30, 2012 for the first ever International Moustache Film Festival. Categories will include: Best Foreign Moustache Film, Best Growth Story, Best Collection of Moustaches in One Film, and Best Fake Moustache Movie.

Whether you regularly don a moustache (hey, we’re not judging) or prefer your upper lip free of stubble, you are welcome to submit your ‘stache of flicks for judgment by the film selection committee. Movies must be 8 minutes or less and the winner will receive a cash prize. This is just speculation, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the wads of cash were folded into one giant moustache.

And Bettys, this isn’t an early April fool’s joke. The festival, as silly as it sounds, is actually a serious event for attendees. Plus, proceeds will go to Northeast Historic Film, MENSK, and Mystache Fights Cancer.

“This is an important moment in moustache history”, said Dr. Jacobs, director of The New England Bureau of The American Mustache Institute  and host of the film festival, in a press release. “Never has there been a film festival dedicated to the unique art of filming the mustached male (or female). The American Mustache Institute would like to congratulate the IMFF for its efforts to preserve the mustached arts.”

After the festival, join the hordes of shaggy style fanatics for the annual Stache Pag. Don’t worry: this beauty pageant is nothing like Toddles & Tiaras.
