It's about time Perez Hilton realized that celebrities, although disgustingly rich and famous, are still people. He's been bullying them for years on his blog, and has made a pretty lucrative career out of it, but now he says he plans to change his ways after the world has seen what bullying can drive Tyler Clementi and others to do.

"Over the last two weeks I have been doing everything I can to bring awareness to the teen suicides and gay bullying," Perez tells Ellen DeGeneres during his appearance on her show, which airs today. "In doing so, a lot of people have called me a hypocrite and a bully myself and a big one ... From now on I really want to be part of the solution and not part of the problem."

He made this video as a promise to his readers that he will change his bullying ways:

Although it looks like Perez is being sincere, we have to question how far he will actually go with this newfound conscience. We agree with Popeater's John Mitchell when he says that in order for Perez to stop bullying, he would need to completely change the tone, voice and style of his blog. "He's built his brand on insulting celebrities for their appearance, age, presumed promiscuity and personal choices with regard to making their sexuality public," writes Mitchell.

For Perez to suddenly turn into a celebrity-worshipping saint, he may lose all of his loyal followers – the ones who find joy in reading vicious things about famous people. It may cost him his website and his career, but if that's what it takes to put an end to bullying, then so be it.

I think we can all agree that one less bully—especially one as loud and influential as Perez Hilton—is definitely a step in the right direction. (Popeater)
