I love later stage celebs. They’re always willing to admit the most hilarious things about their early careers. Like this, for example: In a recent interview on the ESPN 2 show Dan Le Batard Is Highly Questionable, longtime Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak let loose that he and Vanna White used to do the show drunk way back in the day. Fun times!

Apparently when the show first started in 1975, the show was a little different than it is today. “You didn’t win money,” Pat said, “you won fake money with which you could buy cheesy prizes.” Point 1: Lower stakes. He went on to say that every time the wheel spun, “it was the most boring two minutes in television.” Point 2: Much, MUCH lower stakes. And finally, because of all the prizes, their dinner breaks between shows were two and a half hours long (you’d be surprised how long it takes to bus in a gazebo). Point 3: Massive amounts of time to kill.

So what did he and Vanna do? Drink, of course. There was a place called Los Arcos across the street from the studio that had great margaritas. “So,” Pat said,” Vanna and I would go across and have two or three or six, and then come back and do the last shows, and have trouble recognizing the alphabet.” Bwahahahahaha.

Pat remarked that they’d probably be really good tapes to get a hold of. Two words: Drinking. Game. How hilarious would it be to play a drinking game to an ancient episode of Wheel of Fortune on which Pat and Vanna were completely smashed? It’s so meta! I love it!
