It wasn't the scary c-section or painful recovery, not the first weeks of sleepless nights, bleeding nipples or the battle that was breastfeeding, but rather a beautiful vacation six months after the birth of my daughter that led me to the realization: holy crap, I really had a baby!

This year we decided we needed a "real" vacation, not one spent traveling to see relatives or hassling with airlines or long car rides, just a nice, long, break as a family away from all the daily stress.

The destination: a resort less than two hours from our home; seven days, six nights, three-bedroom suite, overlooking the ocean, golf course, pools, lazy rivers, cocktails. I packed a stack of magazines and my Kindle, loaded with all the novels I was going to read. Relaxation was ours at last...
