New Study: Over Half of Americans Believe in Love at First Sight
We’re talking L.O.V.E. The real thing… as soon as you see each other. Has it happened to you?
I know I believe in lust at first sight, but love? I’m not exactly sold on the idea, mainly because I’ve never experienced it myself. I’ve never laid eyes on a guy and thought, “Wow, that’s the man I’m going to share my life with.” On the other hand, I have thought, “Damn! That’s the man I’m going to share the night with.” See the difference?
Apparently, I’m not like the majority of Americans who are tripping all over themselves with love as soon as they meet someone. According to the latest “Great American Sex Survey” conducted by the adult website Adam & Eve, 55 percent of Americans believe in the concept of love at first sight, while 18 percent are unsure and 27 percent just plain don’t (like me!). Of the half that do believe, 71 percent said they had experienced it themselves.
I don’t mean to be cynical, but what are the chances that these 71 percent are either a) in the honeymoon phase of their relationship where everything is rainbows and kisses, or b) in an unhappy relationship they want to get out of, but keep coming back to the excuse, “But we fell in love as soon as we met!”
I’m just saying, just because it seemed to happen right away, doesn’t mean “love at first sight” lasts. Then again, I won’t know until it happens to me, right?
Tell us: Do you believe in love at first sight?
