Mean Betty: Joaquin Phoenix Slams The Oscars
Doesn’t Joaquin understand that we only watch the Oscars for the dresses?
Oh kittens! If there’s one thing that we can count on, it’s Joaquin Phoenix doing something strange for attention. Remember when he ran around wearing that God-awful beard (the one that make him look like a member of Duck Dynasty), dark sunnies and proclaimed on every talk show that he was leaving acting forever to become a hip hop star? Turned out that the months-long prank was his way of ramping up attention for his bomb, I’m Still Here.
Kittens, he may have been still around after the movie quicky sank, but his rambling, disjointed and wacky interviews kept a lot of people away. Now he’s back doing what a lot of critics have called a “star turn” in The Master. Rather than basking in the limelight or taking a bow for acting, Joaquin seems to be doing his level best to knock himself out of the running for accolades.
Joaquin’s been nominated twice for a Best Supporting Oscar (Gladiator, Walk the Line); both times he lost. Now there are rumors that he’s going to be nominated for the same award for his work in The Master. Rather than wait and see if he’s up for the award, he went on record stating that he thinks the whole thing is a joke. Way to keep your career going, Joaquin, way to go!
He was interviewed in Interview (yes, kittens that does look odd) about the possibility of getting nominated again and stated, “I’m just saying that I think it’s bullsh**t. I think it’s total, utter bullsh**t, and I don’t want to be a part of it. I don’t believe in it. It’s a carrot, but it’s the worst-tasting carrot I’ve ever tasted in my whole life. I don’t want this carrot. It’s totally subjective. Pitting people against each other . . . It’s the stupidest thing in the whole world.”
Joaquin, Oscar buzz and Oscar gowns up next!
