MBFW: Katya Leonovich Creates the Perfect Storm
With her shadowy shades and flowing feminine fabrics, Katya Leonovich’s spring ’13 collection is reminiscent of stormy summer skies.
Katya Leonovich’s spring/summer 2013 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week show added a welcome dose of edgy glam to traditional springtime staples. Dark tones juxtaposed with delicate chiffon created the feel of a perfect summer storm—one that you gaze at from the safety of your window, of course!
Straight-faced models in fresh, simple makeup strutted down the runways in shades of grey, green, beige, and lavender. Classic white and black leather served as neutral touches to the collection’s cool hues.
But the real treats were the breathtaking hand painted leather corsets and taffeta skirts. Futuristic, feminine, and slightly intimidating, we couldn’t help but sit captivated by the water nymph-esque magic of it all.
Other standout designs included silk frocks complete with butterfly sleeves, risqué leather evening gowns, and cutout dresses. Skirt and dress hemlines tended to hit at the knee or just below, reigning in the daring designs.
While these offerings aren’t garden party fare, we’re still daydreaming about metallic corsets. Here’s to upscale late-night dinners and style centric soirées, Leonovich style.
