Bettys, thousands of people think Marc Jacobs is one of the most clever if not the most clever designer out there. After all, he’s designing for his own line, Marc Jacobs and his diffusion line (read cheaper—not much) Marc by Marc Jacobs and for Louis Vuitton. Not too mention that he has a bunch of stores in addition to being in hundreds of department stores and a line of accessories and trinkets that can be had for $5 or less. It’s safe to say that (a) he’s making a lot of money and (b) there are people who don’t like him because he’s making a lot of money.

Last Tuesday, someone sprayed graffiti on his Mercer Street store down in Soho. They painted “Art” in bright pink on the bricks and front windows. Turns out the French grafitti artist Kidult did the deed and tweeted about it.

Now Marc being the enterprising soul that he is, has taken a photo of defaced store, slapped it on pink tee and is selling it for $689

Seriously. Seriously. He is really selling a tee that you could make if you blew up the photo and then printed on a plain tee for way less. It could cost you about $10 to do it yourself—I had a roomie who did these tees all the time, cost her nothing.

Is there really a market for a tee that almost costs $700? Or is this Marc’s way of getting even with Kidault for doing what he did.

Either way, Marc Jacob is crazy like a fox.

Tell us: Is this one of the most absurd things you’ve heard Monday morning or do you want the tee for your own?

The “market” resides in Hollywood, I’m sure. Hell, I feel guilty if I spend $90 on a tshirt!
