Love It or Hate It: Chanel’s Haute Couture Feathery Wedding Gown
Karl Lagerfeld designed a Victorian-style wedding gown that’s really, really wide!
While we’re sweltering here in the states, over in Paris, it’s Haute Couture Fashion Week. That means celebrities and fashionistas are sweating (heavily, I’m sure) in suits and serious dresses to sit and watch fashion shows… Um, fun?
Traditionally haute couture fashion shows end with a bride lightly tripping down the runway. At Chanel, one can only assume that the model walked very, very s-l-o-w-l-y down the catwalk encumbered by the weight of the semi-gargantuan wedding gown.
Karl Lagerfeld’s vision of the Chanel bride–for this season at least-include a massively feathered jacket, oodles of petticoats and tiers of tulle.
Yes, it’s lovely to look at, but would you wear it on your wedding day or would you be screaming, “I need Randy to the Rescue?” Think about it, the gown’s got to be so heavy, you’d probably need little robots under the gown to holding it up so you could stand upright, let alone walk down the aisle. On an up note, the dress is so heavy and big that you could most likely burn a ton of calories just breathing in the thing.
So tell us, would you sacrifice comfort and crawl walk down the aisle in this dress or opt for something less weighty on your big day? Or does your skin just itch at the sight of it?
