Maybe it’s because the Amanda Seyfried movie is coming out soon, or maybe fashion designers do have a collective imagination, but Raul Melgoza, Luca Luca’s Creative Director was the first of many designers this week to use the forest as inspiration for his fall collection.
The fairytale started off with models wearing slim cut equestrian style pants paired with boxy jackets and ended up with them wearing beaded evening gowns straight out of a '40s movie.
Other than worrying about finding a diet that would get most people into those pants (when Raul Megoza cuts a slim pant, it’s really slim), his separates are a joyful mashup of colors and prints. Think that throwing together an outfit that consists of an orange fox fur jacket and fuchsia top and bottom would make you look like a clown? Do you think tossing on an olive leather and fox cape with a golden yellow skirt and top would make you lose your friends? Okay, normally you’d say that these are awful combos -- better suited for a 3-year-old playing dress up -- but they work. Oh they work!

The colors may sound discordant, but they’re really reminiscent of leaves on a fall day. When you walk by a park with trees showing of their fall wear, it’s a glorious riot of color. This show as like an education about breaking rules. If you like it, if it looks good to you, be a rebel and do it!
Speaking of leaves, the motif was everywhere. Leaf embroidered skirts, leaf printed tops and leaf printed gowns.

Oh the gowns! They had old time glamour all over them. Think Katherine Hepburn in Bringing Up Baby. A few of them had a curtain of vertical black beads covering the open back, so the skin played peek-a-boo. Seriously sexy.
Capes and capelets-according to Luca Luca are here for another season. So if you bought one this past year, you can rock it out again.
There weren’t many celebrites at the show. The model, Petra Nemcova was surrounded by photographers; it looked like they were five deep, shooting her photo. She’s a tall woman and you could barely see her head over the cameras!
Tell us: would you wear clashing colors?
