Well, that was certainly fast by divorce standards: Instead of having their divorce proceedings drag on and on and on, Katy Perry and Russell Brand have signed their settlement just over a month after they announced that they were splitting up. I’m not really sure if “good for them” is the appropriate phrase to use in this situation, but… good for them. For getting it done quickly and cleanly, that is.

According to People, Katy and Russell have reached “a comprehensive written settlement of all issues” as of Tuesday this week. Since they don’t have any kids, the agreement covers distribution of their property. Russell, notably, did not try to get any money out of Katy; given that she’s worth $44 million, while he’s estimated at $15 million, AND they didn’t sign a prenup, that’s pretty big of him. Technically, he’s entitled to half of whatever she earned during the course of their marriage—but he didn’t try to wring it out of her.

And hey, guess what? Katy even signed the papers with a smiley face! Check it out (Naturally, the folks at TMZ were the ones who managed to get a hold of the document. They always are, aren’t they?):

Does it seem a little weird to be signing a set of divorce papers with a smiley face? Maybe, but maybe not. Bear in mind that the smiley face is an element of Katy’s standard autograph, so it’s likely that, like all of us, she goes on autopilot when she signs things and her hand just does what it does. Then again, if separating will make both of them happier, then hey, smiley faces all round!

Katy, by the way, is also legally restoring her maiden name to Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson. Onward and upward, right?
