Philip Treacy makes the most fantastical hats and fascinators. He designed hats for Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel. Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss are just two models who would model for him for free in exchange for a hat! Isabella Blow, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga and scads of socialites and stars have worn his hats. Kate’s known for wearing fascinators and big hats like Treacy’s. She chose him to design her wedding headpiece upon the reccomendation of her future mother-in-law, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
Treacy’s created wedding millinery, hats that look like birdcages, picture hats and hats for men too. Of course wearing a birdcage hat to a party would hamper your movements-how do you get a drink anywhere near your mouth? So, let’s concentrate on fascinators. In the US, they’re commonly called cocktail hats. They were big from the 40’s to the early 60s. Now they’re coming back. Would you wear one?
