Jeremy Renner Narrowly Escapes Thailand Bar Brawl
Bar brawls are no fun. Just ask Jeremy Renner.
Talk about a brush with death: The Hurt Locker actor Jeremy Renner narrowly escaped a vicious bar brawl in Phuket, Thailand during the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday, January 4. We have one word for this: Oof!
TMZ (naturally) broke the news first. According to them, Jeremy was attacked in an early morning bar brawl that left one man in serious condition—after getting SLASHED IN THE NECK WITH A ROTOR AXE. Seriously? Who the heck DOES that?!
TMZ reported that Jeremy and his party had been bar hopping, and that at about 4:30am, party member Vorasit Issara dropped a glass on the floor, thus starting the madness. Six men, possibly bar employees, then “allegedly attacked Jeremy, Vorasit, and the others in their party. In addition to being stabbed in the neck, Vorasit was stabbed in the stomach with a knife.” The Phuket Gazette elaborated on the damage, stating that Vorasit was also slashed in the neck with the aforementioned home axe, which had been put together with a motorcycle brake rotor. Jeremy, TMZ went on to say, suffered minor injuries.
Later reports, however, revealed that Jeremy is just fine; in fact, in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, a rep for the actor stated, “Jeremy Renner was indeed in a bar in Phuket, Thailand as a vicious attack on a patron took place, but was not injured or involved.” Furthermore, the rep told People, “He exited as the fight took place.” Thank goodness for that!
According to the Phuket Gazette, the bar in question, the Rachada Pub, has been ordered closed for the next 60 days; the fight broke out well after the mandatory cosing time for bars, so it shouldn’t have still been open then.
Jeremy was in the area shooting for The Bourne Legacy, the next Jason Bourne film. He can currently be seen in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and he’ll be appearing as superhero archer extraordinaire Hawkeye in The Avengers in May.
