It’s Official: Britney Spears and Demi Lovato Are Your New ‘X Factor’ Judges
Britney Spears and Demi Lovato have allegedly both signed on as ‘The X Factor’s’ new judges. Good news/bad news?
Remember back in March when rumors started kicking up that Britney Spears was well on her way to joining The X Factor as one of its brand-spanking-new judges? Well, it looks like the rumors have finally become reality—and then some. That’s right: Britney is your new X Factor judge, and with Demi Lovato at her side, no less.
Both pieces of news were first reported over the weekend by TMZ; they were subsequently picked up by and confirmed to E! Online, Digital Spy, and just about every other online media outlet under the sun. Britney and Demi will replace former judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, both of whom talent competition mastermind Simon Cowell fired in January. No word yet on who might be replacing Steve Jones, who was also axed in January, as host of the show.
Of course, the OFFICIAL official announcement from Fox hasn’t happened yet; that’s due later today (we think, at least) at the show’s upfront event for advertisers, which will take place at the Beacon Theatre in New York at 4pm. TMZ also noted that Britney hadn’t quite signed the deal yet due to some leftover haggling—and that furthermore, it will be either her father, Jamie, or her fiancé, Jason Trawick who will eventually do the actual signing, not Britney herself (ah, conservatorship!). Demi, though, appears to have officially signed on already and is rarin’ to go. Both stars are expected to put in appearances at today’s event.
So is this good news or bad news? I suppose it depends on whether you’re a “the glass is half full” or “the glass is half empty” kind of person. Both Britney and Demi have been through some tough things recently, so maybe this new gig will help them both get back in the saddle and on the move again. But at the same time, part of me can’t help but feel that reality singing competitions are where musicians’ careers go to die, making it possibly NOT such a great thing for either of them. Then again, Adam Levine’s career seems to be doing just fine in spite of his judging gig with The Voice, so do with that what you will.
Tell us: What do you think? Will Britney and Demi rock the judging panel?
