Miss Piggy and Katy Perry

She does have a lot of cleavage, doesn’t she? Miss Piggy, we mean.
As we’ve all heard by now, Katy Perry’s duet with Elmo was yanked from Sesame Street after complaints from parents who thought Perry’s dress was too revealing. But sfgate blogger Peter Hartlaub offers a minority view: “In my opinion,” he writes, “Miss Piggy could get way trashier than Katy Perry.” And watching The Muppet Show’s porcine sex symbol made Hartlaub slightly uneasy when he was a child: “I found Miss Piggy’s tendency to show cleavage and a lot of leg to be unsettling.” Not that that was a bad thing: — “which I always figured was Frank Oz and Jim Henson’s intention with the character. I think Henson liked to challenge people in that way.” And Sesame Street should have followed Henson’s example in having enough confidence that kids will be able to handle some challenging content. Kids see more at the beach or the pool everyday than they saw with Katy Perry. The whole thing got a little overblown, I think.

People always look for a reason to be offended by something. That was definitely blown out of proportion.

Katy Perry likes to push the envelope, and this is a classic case of “shock value” propaganda. She also likes to play the victim…”oh poor me, I’m a good little Christian girl, see the Jesus tattoo on my wrist? But, why bother covering up my boobs on a CHILDREN’S SHOW?” Oh, and Miss Piggy is a PUPPET PIG!! Come on!
