Celeb Makeup Tip: How To Use Highlighters

Add oomph to your everyday makeup with some makeup tips from the celebs

-Paige Herman Axel

Isla Fisher

Who doesn't want radiant skin? While some of us are blessed with a natural glow from within, others (myself included) need a little help. That's where highlighters come in, and while you think they may be all about shimmer, they're more about reflecting light in the best possible way. Celebrities, like Isla Fisher (shown here) for instance, are no strangers to highlighters and this makeup artist essential is the key to red carpet perfection.

Liquid
I absolutely love liquid highlighter because it's so versatile. For the most subtle sheen, mix just a drop into your moisturizer and follow with your regular makeup, or mix into foundation to give your skin all-over luminosity. Liquid highlighter can also be used on its own to highlight specific areas of the face, and many makeup artists will dab a little on the forehead, down the center of the nose and just above the cheekbones. One to try: Mark Glow Xpert Face Shimmer ($8, meetmark.com)

Stick
For the most precise application, go for a stick highlighter. It's easy to dab on before you blend it in, and I find this to be a must-have when my skin is looking great and I don't need to wear foundation. A bronzy stick is perfect for sultry summer nights, because it adds a little color along with the glow - and its consistency helps it stay put. One to try: NARS The Multiple in St. Barts ($37, beauty.com)
