Turning your bedroom into a romantic haven depends on the type of atmosphere you want or the level of romance that you are trying to achieve. Whatever candle scents you decide to use will help set the mood that you are trying to create, and the possibilities are endless.

The sweet, yummy scent of gourmand type candles come to mind when devising the perfect romantic setting, but tropical can be just as appealing–what could be more romantic than envisioning sipping a cocktail on an island with the one you love? For me, Slatkin & Co. Caribbean Escape ($9.50, bathandbodyworks.com) and Island Nectar ($9.50, bathandbodyworks.com) whisk me away to that magical place and evoke feelings of love, romance and relaxation.

If you want to play it safe and to go the classic route of using flowers to set a romantic mood in the bedroom but don’t want the fuss of cleaning up the petals, I suggest lighting a rose or peony scented candle. While rose is a traditional, iconic romantic note, the addition of peony adds a soft, pretty touch and creates the perfect fresh complement for an alluring atmosphere.

And don’t forget to try a lavender or vanilla candle as a subtle way to incorporate some aphrodisiac scents without drawing too much attention.
