Hip Halloween Ideas That Won’t Creep You Out
From costumes to décor, we’ve got you covered with chic and stylish Halloween ideas!
Every Halloween, we tend pull out the same tired decor. Depending on your level of involvement, it can vary from “Oh, how cute!” to “Is that a theme park or what?” The choices aren’t all that fabulous most of the time… but this year I think the industry has kicked it up a notch! There are a lot of ways you can tie in a current trend to your decor in a way that feels festive without screaming “Halloween,” with the end result being a much more chic and current vibe. Also, it’s DEFINITELY time to rethink the whole “graveyard on the front lawn” thing. It’s really weird and not that cute.
As with all holidays, I always like to start celebrating by shopping. In my efforts to find all things hip and happening for Halloween, I was pleasantly surprised by manufacturers’ creativity, as well as by my own personal finds that I think you might like, too! The bottom line is, there is something for everyone.
If you are one of those people who always dresses up and goes all out, I commend you—especially if you’re north of 25 years old. Let’s face it: The costume ideas that once seemed cute are now utterly ridiculous. Wilma Flintstone The Prostitiute and Sexy Genie are just not great looks for most of us past junior year in college. But never feat! There are WAY better options available on Spirit Halloween and 80sTees.com. I found a Black Widow costume on Spirit Halloween that’s sexy without feeling trashy (seen above), and on ‘80s Tees they have these great t-shirts that are costumes all on their own. I got the Wonder Woman t-shirt pictured here that looks like the top half of a costume—and it even has a removable cape on the back! This is a great option for people who want to dress up a little to trick or treat with their kids without going into full-on costume mode. And at $25 – 50 bucks a pop, they’re cheap, too. As a finishing touch for the girly girls, we loved the Dashing Diva appliqués from Nail Bliss.
The Ultimate Hostess
If parties are your thing, you should make a beeline straight to Pottery Barn for an endless selection of fabulous entertaining items at great prices. They’re well done and of superior quality, so you can use and reuse these pieces year after year without tiring of them. We especially liked the condiment set and drink dispenser, which were both cradled in skeletal hands (check ‘em out up top!), as well as the mercury pumpkins seen here. Bonus: The pumpkins can be reused for Thanksgiving.
If you are more of a paper goods entertainer, you’ll have a field day on Minted and at Papyrus. They both have chic, sophisticated paper goods and small decor items that will impress even the biggest Halloween snobs (we’re digging the “Boo to You” sign seen above). You should also check out the decorative vases and tabletop items on Chive. Style is definitely front and center here!
