Why, hello there, David Beckham! May we say that you are looking marvelous today?

Yes, and there, too. You are, without a doubt, a fine specimen of a human being.

It’s true: David Beckham is the first male to appear solo on the magazine’s cover in its illustrious, 26-year history. Since its creation, Elle has been famous for its roster of fabulous female celebrities and models, as well as for the occasional male/female pairing (like this one, for instance); but never once has it had a man—and ONLY a man—grace its cover.
Until now. To celebrate the arrival of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Elle UK decided to break with tradition. “David Beckham is a national hero,” the magazine’s Editor in Chief, Lorraine Candy, said. “He is an icon and Elle is known for featuring icons on its cover. This is a first for us on the newsstand and I believe he is loved by men and women alike.” The saying really is true: Women want him, men want to be him.
“Anyway, who doesn’t want to see a picture of one of the world’s most handsome men on the front cover of a magazine?,” Lorraine continued. And she is absolutely right! This is why we’d like to help you get your Wednesday off to a terrific start by presenting you with these lovely images of this lovely man.
Happy Wednesday!

As handsome as he is, the tattoos make him terribly unattractive. Yuck!
