Good for You, Bristol Palin!
I'm rooting for the young mom as she makes her way in the world-and onto the DWTS stage.

Bristol Palin

Lord knows when it comes to politics I’m no fan of the Sarah Palin clan, but darn if they don’t keep earning my begrudging admiration in some way or another. I admit to having spent more than a few minutes in the past year or so snickering over the ever-juicy developments of the Bristol Palin / Levi Johnston made-for-reality-TV soap opera (Playgirl? An “acting debut” advocating teen abstinence? Who could make this stuff up?!)… but I’m cheering now for Bristol and her new gig on Dancing With The Stars.

“I’m not the first mom to participate on Dancing with the Stars … and like those who came before me, I want to set a good example for all of the amazing moms out there,” Bristol told RadarOnline.com. “Yes, we can balance work and family, and we can also take on a new and exciting challenge.”

Yes, we can! I was appalled by the criticism Kate Gosselin received for appearing on the show, and I’m sure Bristol is going to hear some of the same. And don’t even get me started on the notion that she’s somehow glamorizing teen pregnancy. What’s she supposed to do – stay home wearing a hair shirt and bare feet, bemoaning the ruination of her young life? No. She’s supposed to be doing exactly what she’s doing – making the most of what is a blessing in the end, and making the most of all the opportunities that she gets.

I agree, go Bristol! I'm glad to see that you (April) have an open mind and aren't ragging on Bristol just because of her last name but rather looking at her for who SHE is.

I still don't like her, but you made me think about her in a different way.

Seriously? This is the example I am supposed to point out to my 8 year old daughter ... a girl that wasn't smart enough to figure out how to take a little white pill everyday and is now making a living as a teen mom celebutante? No thanks!

"A young woman who became a mom by accident?????" Are you kidding me, she had unprotected sex and got pregnant?! So, that affords her a slot on Dancing With The Stars? Maybe MTV's next installment of 16 & Pregnant should get the girls to dance...on a pole. Seriously, we are applauding this girl's endeavors as a mother?

How else would you describe her getting pregnant if not "by accident"? It was obviously a foolish, unplanned mistake -- ie: an accident. But that doesn't make her a bad mother now!

I agree with @weetziebat! I still don't like her.
The reason: Bristol still is a teen mom and was irresponsible any way you put it. She even let down her mom by getting lots of negative feedback from voters. She tries to attract attention, fame and pity by going on shows and talking about how glorious being a "mom" is. Please, she probably would've put her kid for adoption if it weren't for her mom's past election state.
I don't think she's a bad mother, but she's still a teen and we SHOULDN'T be congratulating a kid who had a BABY AT A YOUNG AGE! Jeez.

Bristol has had a lot to deal with lately. Her choices in life have not always been wise. Bless that beautiful little baby and his Mom Bristol. I think she is trying to make money the easiest way she can right now. I would like to see her in school and working toward a degree and the next news we hear about her being she is happy and settled on her chosen path.

Bristol was on Leno last night, and she said that she got the invitation to appear on DWTS pretty much out of the blue. I think it takes a lot of guts for her to give it a try when she knows it will subject her to more criticism from the public.

I wish her the best, it's not an easy life having a child that young, but at least she has family support and isn't struggling to survive. She made a mistake by being irresponsible but now she's trying to make the best life she can - I won't criticize her for that.
