Some of you might have fond memories of the BBC Children in Need’s Pudsey Bear: sunshine yellow, complete with a patch over his eye, this stuffed mascot has been representing needy kids in the UK since 1985.
After decades of wear and tear, though, it’s about time our fluffy little friend got a makeover (make that several!). And we’re not talking just a trip to the nearest washing machine and a fresh patch!
As it turns out, Pudsey has quite a few designer buddies, including Erdem, Katie Hillier, Mulberry, Liberty of London, and Giles Deacon, willing to step up and fight for British youths-- with a whole lot of glitz and glamour, of course! These renowned artists took bits of materials like suede and leather, floral and tartan patterns, and a rainbow of colors to make good ol’ Pudsey totally runway ready.
"We are absolutely delighted to have such prestigious designers turn Pudsey couture,” said Sarah Monteith, the director of marketing and fundraising for BBC Children in Need, in a press release.
The bears, numbering nine in total so far, are currently the most fashion forward teddies on display at the iconic Liberty store in London-- at least until they’re shipped off to collectors homes’ on November 17, 2011.

That’s right: you don’t need to take a trip to the UK to get your hands on one of these unique teddies, because they’re all listed on eBay right now! If you have a hunk of cash lying around in a coffee mug somewhere or just crave major bragging rights, join in the bidding war for the chance to own the trendiest accessory on the market today. The auctions run until Thursday, November 17.
Best of all, this would be a splurge for a more than worthy cause: every last cent of the funds raised from these auctions will be used by Children in Need to make disadvantaged youngsters’ lives a bit brighter.
And just so you know, Pudsey has been proven to have a personality that would warm the heart of any holiday houseguest. “It was fun to work with Pudsey,” Erdem explained. “He was very pleasant!”
You can track these famous fuzzies by following @BBCCIN and @LibertyLondon on Twitter and regularly searching the hashtag #CiNfashion.
We think it’s safe to say that this month, cute is the new haute. Happy bidding, ladies!
