Giuliana Rancic Diagnosed with Breast Cancer
E! News and Style Network host Giuliana Rancic revealed today that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
E! News and Style Network host Giuliana Rancic announced this morning on The Today Show that she has breast cancer. According to People, doctors found the tumor while giving Giuliana a mammogram as part of her efforts to get pregnant via in-vitro fertilization.
This is the third time that Giuliana has tried IVF; sadly, her first attempt ended in a miscarriage and the second one didn’t take. At least they caught the cancer early, though. Initially, 36-year-old Giuliana was going to wait until she turned 40 to have a mammogram, but she decided to have one now at the urging of her IVF doctor. And it’s a good thing, too; otherwise, they might not have caught the cancer as early as they did. Giuliana’s prognosis is good, and she will undergo surgery this week, followed by six weeks of radiation therapy.
About her ordeal, Giuliana said, “I still want this baby, because this baby has saved my life. I truly feel God was looking out after me. If I had gotten pregnant later down the line, I could have been a lot sicker.” She also had a message to share with other women: “A lot of us think we’re invincible, but we have to start putting ourselves on the to-do list. I had a friend call me yesterday, and she said, ‘I’m so sorry, can I do anything for you?’ And I said, ‘Just call your doctor tomorrow and make an appointment. That’s what you could do for me.’ If you can just find it early, you will be okay.”
October, by the way, is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Help out Giuliana and women suffering from breast cancer everywhere by donating to the cause.
