Get Janelle Monae’s Grammy Star Style!
Nyx Cosmetics shows you how to do it step by step.
Grammy nominated singer Janelle Monae channeled Marlene Dietrich’s retro glam style and wore a menswear inspired tux to the event last night. How do you compete with all those ruffles? Makeup artist Oslyn Holder of Nxy Cosmetics said about working with her: “Janelle has a beautiful complexion, the perfect base to work in classic, yet fun pops of color.”
Oslyn wanted to keep with the 40s feel of Janelle’s outfit and hairstyle, so she used Nyx Cosmetics liquid make in Caramel ($14, nyxcosmetics.com) and blended it with a moisturizer to keep the look dewy and light.
Osyln wanted to highlight Janelle’s killer cheekbones, so her eye makeup was subtle. Osyln used Nyx Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Brown ($5.50, nyxcosmetics.com) as a base. To create definition, Oslyn then used Nyx Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Charcoal Brown ($4.99, ulta.com). To line Janelle’s eyes, Oslyn used Nyx Cosmetics Studio liner in Extreme Black ($4.99, ulta.com) for the top lid, then followed it up with Nyx Cosmetics volumizing Doll Eye mascara ($9, ulta.com).
Keeping things subtle, Oslyn created a soft lip for Janelle. She started with the Nyx Cosmetics slim lip pencil in Espresso ($3.49, ulta.com) and used it all over Janelle’s lips as a foundation. Then Oslyn used Nyx Cosmetics soft matte lip cream in London ($5.99, ulta.com) and finished it off with Nyx Cosmetics Black Label lipstick in Natural ($7.50, nyxcosmetics.com).
To give Janelle’s cheeks the star treatment, Olsyn blended two Nyx Cosmetics Grinding blushes; apricot and English Rose ($16.50 each, nyxcosmetics.com).
