From Rooney Mara to Elizabeth Olsen: 12 Actresses to Watch Out For in 2012
The New Year will no doubt ring in a host of talented young women!
Emma Watson, Kat Dennings, Nina Dobrev, and Ellen Page: they’re young, mindblowingly talented, and fodder for just about every celeb-centered zine. You’d be hard pressed to find a moviegoer or television viewer who hadn’t at least heard their names in passing.
But in 2012, we’re expecting the rise of a new crop of gifted women who will rock screens large and small. Get ready, because we’d venture to say that these gals will soon be industry staples. Bring on the New Year!
1. Rooney Mara
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actress wasn’t always out to become a leading lady– but we’re sure glad she did! An NYU grad, Rooney studied psychology and international relations before starting Faces of Kibera, a charity dedicated to helping orphans in Kenya. Smart, socially conscious, and artistic to boot? We can’t wait to see what she’ll wow us with next!
2. Jennifer Lawrence
After a phenomenal performance in 2010 Winter’s Bone, it didn’t come as much of a surprise that indie darling Jennifer Lawrence would be cast as The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen. Besides fighting for her life in the arena, fans can catch her in The House at the End of the Street in April 2012. The odds seem to be ever in her favor!
3. Elizabeth Olsen
Sure, Lizzie has two very famous older sisters, but she has major acting chops in her own right. You’ve seen her take the lead in Martha Marcy May Marlene– and she isn’t stopping with that. Catch her in the paranormal film Red Lights in 2012 and Very Good Girls in 2013. Mary-Kate and Ashley who?
4. Elle Fanning
We all know and love Dakota, but lil sis Elle might soon give the ethereal starlet a run for her money! The 13-year-old was last spotted in We Bought a Zoo and has appeared in films like Super 8, Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt, and Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere. What were you doing in junior high?
5. Keke Palmer
Keke rose to stardom in Akeelah and the Bee in 2006, but she’s been proving that she can do much more than spell a few tough words. So what’s next for this up and comer? A self-titled album, a starring role in Joyful Noise, and parts in Nickelodeon’s Rags and the latest Ice Age film. This spells success for us!
6. Lily Collins
This journalist turned actress was a contributor to bestselling mags and newspapers like Seventeen, Teen Vogue, and the Los Angeles Times before appearing on 90210. Now, she’ll light up the big screen in March 2012’s Mirror Mirror opposite Julia Roberts. We can’t help but believe her career will be nothing less than enchanted.
More fab actresses to watch out for, including Juno Temple and Carey Mulligan, up next!
