If you haven’t tried scotch whisky before, read up on these fun facts and tips to fully enjoy the experience.

1. Scotch is not just for men.
In fact, women have an incredible ability to nose aromas at lower concentrations than men. That is, a woman is often more sensitive to an aroma and, in general, has a very refined sense of smell as opposed to men. So, the sublime notes in a scotch whisky offer a great deal of adventure for the curious and confident woman.

2. And it’s not a new phenomenon for women to drink scotch. Somewhere along the way, we’ve forgotten about how elegant and enjoyable scotch is. Greta Garbo’s first words on screen in the movie Anna Christie (1930) were “Gimme a whisky. Ginger ale on the side. And don’t be stingy, baby.”

Scotch whisky doesn’t fill you up, has no added sugar, and pairs really well with a piece of dark chocolate. Single Malt Scotch, a more rare  and complex whisky from Scotland, is a distilled spirit made from just water, yeast, and barley.

4. Ordering it at the bar is super sexy.
Just tell the bartender, “I’ll have a Glenfiddich 18. Neat. Water and rocks on the side.” Have a taste, then add a bit of water to bring the alcohol content down a bit. Single Malt Scotch is about 40 percent alcohol by volume, so it will take you by surprise if you are not used to it. Once you open your nose and palate to the over 400 flavor-bearing compounds found in the scotch, you’ll be hooked. Go ahead and add some ice, too, if you’d like. Put your nose at the rim of your glass and sniff to see if you can smell a nice hint of vanilla and lemon, and perhaps a bit of woodiness.

5. Men will be very impressed that you’re a scotch-drinker.
I guarantee your man will love it when you start drinking fine scotch whiskies. As my man once said to me, “It shows that you are cool, fearless, know what you like, and are willing to explore.”

I actually just drank Scotch Whisky for the first time a few weeks ago and was surprised to find I like it! However, I’m also a Hendricks-on-the-rocks, lime twist girl, so I can stomach a lot of booze. Wisconsin, ya know heh?

Scotch rocks for me for years now – those sweet drinks make me very sick – I can manage scotch all night and wake up fine in the morning every time –

When I first met my ex-husband 30 years ago, he drank scotch. I loved it the first time I tried it! If you can’t stomach it on the rocks or with water, try an “Aggravation” – scotch, Kahlua and milk! It’s delicious (tastes like a milkshake and is easy on the stomach). Every time I see a bottle of Glenlivet, I get a little pang in my heart!
