Fatigues to Fabulous Shines Light On the Struggles Facing Female Veterans
America’s women veterans deserve the support they need to re-enter civilian life –and Fatigues to Fabulous is here to help!
Did you know that by 2020, America will boast over three million female veterans? Today, that number stands at approximately 1.8 million. And though these courageous former soldiers have sacrificed so much to keep us safe, their acclimation process is no easy feat. That’s where Fatigues to Fabulous (F2F) steps in.
This awareness-raising campaign is the brainchild of a trio of 501c3 organizations: Grace After Fire, The Society for Women’s Health Research, and Business and Professional Women’s Foundation. Through conferences, national tours, and public service announcements, F2F hopes to educate the public about the unique health and economic struggles facing female veterans.
“I joined the Guard when I was young, so the effects on family were never a consideration for me,” veteran and F2F PSA star Donna Barrios told us. “It really never occurred to me until I got married, had children, and had to deploy. I had been so used to taking care of just myself while I was gone; it was easy. My only responsibility while I was deployed was to work long days for many months, so having to take care of my children’s needs, though a natural tendency, became difficult. We were late for school every day for a month. It took me two hours to get them and myself ready to get out the door. I had to learn patience all over again.”
