Fall 2012 TV

Fall may bring the dreaded (if still somewhat exciting) back-to-school time—but it also brings with it something awesome: Brand new television shows! We’ve rounded up 12 of fall’s newest offerings to give you a sneak peek of what you’ve got to look forward to starting as early as next week. Love mysteries? Want to laugh out loud? Get your thrills from dramas? From The Mindy Project to Beauty and the Beast and from Elementary to The Neighbors, we’ve got it all right here!

1. 666 Park Avenue (ABC, Sundays at 10pm EST starting September 30)

Based on the novel of the same name by Gabriella Pierce, 666 Park Avenue follows a young couple who have recently moved into a chi-chi Manhattan apartment complex—only to find that its upscale tenants might be possessed by a mysterious demonic force. All of you Lost fans will be happy to see a familiar face in the cast as the building’s owner and the show’s primary antagonist: Terry O’Quinn, AKA our buddy Locke.

2. The Mindy Project (Fox, Tuesdays at 9:30pm EST starting September 25)

The Office’s Mindy Kaling strikes out on her own! Created by, written, and starring Mindy as Mindy Lahiri, this new sitcom tracks a skilled OB/GYN as she goes in search of her own perfect romantic comedy ending. Witty, sharp TV from one of the funniest women in showbiz? Count us in! Fun fact: Mindy’s real-life mom is an OB/GYN, too.

3. Elementary (CBS, Thursdays at 10pm EST starting on September 27)

Sherlock Holmes, updated and set in New York, starring Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Watson (Dr. Joan Watson, that is). I’ll be honest: I’m skeptical, mostly because the BBC’s Sherlock Holmes update, simply called Sherlock, is so brilliant that I’m not sure anything will be able to top it. But I dig the idea of a female Watson (echoes of Joanne Woodward in They Might Be Giants, perhaps?) and Jonny Lee Miller is always fun to watch, so we’re giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Up next: Matthew Perry’s new project, a re-envisioned fairy tale, and aliens living next door!
