One of television’s hot button topic shows, Huge, explores a side of teenage life that society has steered clear of for decades—the overweight youth being (gulp) happy. That era is coming to a close and the rail-thin, shiny Hannah Montanas of today can step aside to make room for the upbeat, quirky and lovable characters that star in the hit ABC Family series.

When I arrive at East Village restaurant Whitmans to interview Harvey Guillen, who plays Alistair on Huge, I am met with hugs (and a cupcake he has brought me). It is hard to avoid falling instantly in love with the young actor.

During our chat I scarf down the restaurant’s signature mouth-watering Juicy Lucy hamburger (complete with a cheese explosion in the center) as he sheds light on the importance of making your own decisions. “It’s about choices,” he says. “You can choose the ribs or the burgers or the salads. You have options. You make your own choices.”
