Exclusive: Designer Douglas Hannant Chats About His New Fragrance
It’s debuting just in time for Mercedes Benz Fall Fashion Week!
Douglas Hannant started out as an assistant window dresser at Barneys New York. Now he dresses socialites like Olivia Palermo, Tinsley Mortimer, and Ivana Trump, Hannant epitomizes sophistication and chic. Which is why his creations are a red carpet fave too. Glee’s Naya Rivera wore one of his gowns to the recent Golden Globes. This Fashion Week the designer takes haute couture inspiration and debuts his signature fragrance Douglas Hannant de Robert Piguet in collaboration with renowned perfume house Robert Piguet Parfums. BettyConfidential had an e-chat with the designer to discuss the launch.
BettyConfidential: Your fashion line has been around for over a decade. Why was now the perfect time to launch your first fragrance?
Douglas Hannant: We’re a niche brand and so this was the perfect way to reach a broader customer.
BettyConfidential: How does it feel to partner with Robert Piguet Parfums? Did you feel any added pressure in working with such an established brand known for its timeless scents?
Douglas Hannant: Piguet has an amazing legacy of both fragrance and couture and so it’s a huge honor. This is the first new scent Robert Piguet Parfums has launched since the 1960’s and so there are some major expectations that come with that!
BettyConfidential: Creating a signature fragrance must be an extremely personal undertaking. What was your inspiration?
Douglas Hannant: I wanted the fragrance to be modern, clean and fresh and worked with Givaudan in Paris to create the scent.
