In the wake of her decision to divorce Kris Humphries, Kim Kardashian took to her Celebuzz blog yesterday to send a message out to her fans. And to be honest… I’m not really sure what to make of it. Do you?

In it, Kim apologizes to her fans, but she doesn’t actually explain the reason(s) for the divorce. She also responds to a lot of the media reports floating around which may or may not be true, but her responses, in turn, may or may not be genuine. All in all, I’m left with the feeling that the message may be kind of a nice gesture, but that it doesn’t ultimately say much. And it—the whole situation, really—baffles me.

I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me. Want to take a look at some of the charges that have been made against Kim in the media and see how she responds to them with me? Because I’m puzzled, and I’d love to hear your take on the whole thing, Bettys. Here we go:

Charge #1: Kim Didn’t Marry for Love. Radar Online is ostensibly responsible for this one; they reported yesterday that a source told them that Kim was never actually in love with Kris. Radar probably isn’t the only party to blame for this charge, though, as it’s a pretty easy conclusion to make, even without the help of the tabloids.

Kim’s Response: “First and foremost, I married for love. I can’t believe I even have to defend this. I would not have spent so much time on something just for a TV show!” She went on to say that initially, she wasn’t even sure she wanted to film the wedding, but ultimately went along with it because the Kardashians have filmed “our best moments and our worst moments.” Furthermore, she said, “These were all real moments. That’s what makes us who we are. We share, we give, we love, and we are open!”

I have a little trouble with this, and it all comes back to the fact that the Kardashian family has made it their business to put their entire lives on camera. And when I say business, I mean it literally: Their lives are their company, and they’re all CEOS. I don’t know about you guys, but because of this, I automatically assume that anything they do is a stunt.

The nature of reality TV these days has evolved such that the majority of people who appear on it are so clearly playing for the cameras that I’ve developed a natural distrust of anything reality stars do. And that includes the Kardashians. To be honest, do they have to make their livings by filming every little detail and broadcasting it to the world at large? No. This is something they choose to do, and because of that, I assume that everything they do is driven by one simple question: Will it make good television?

There’s a difference between being open because you’re genuinely an open person and being “open” because it makes you disgusting amounts of money. Generally, we called that exploitation, even if you’re doing it to yourself. So yes, Kim. I do believe that you would spend so much time on something just for a TV show, because your livelihood depends on just that.

Charge #2: Kim Knew the Wedding Was a Mistake, But Went Through With It Anyway. According to Us Weekly, a source reported the following: “She knew it was wrong before they were even married. They were not seeing eye to eye and it felt wrong.” The source then went on to say that right up until the date of the wedding itself, “she was calling friends telling them she didn’t want to do it,” but “felt like she couldn’t turn back.”

Kim’s Response: She kind-of-sort-of acknowledges this as true. According to Kim herself, she’s a hopeless romantic who “believed in love and the dream of what I wanted so badly” that she “felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn’t get off.” She admits that she did get caught up with “the hoopla and the filming of the TV show,” and that when she realized she probably should end the relationship and not go through with it, she “didn’t know how to” and “didn’t want to disappoint a lot of people.” That doesn’t stop it from being a silly decision, though. I’m not exactly old-fashioned, but I do feel that marriage shouldn’t really be something you just try on and then immediately throw away, so I reiterate the same question Mean Betty asked the other day: Why couldn’t she have figured this out before the $10 million wedding? It just seems like such a waste of time, money, and energy.

Charge #3: Kim Made Millions Off the Wedding. This one is being pointed at by so many sources that I don’t even know which one started it. Again, though, it’s a pretty easy conclusion to arrive at, for obvious reasons.

Kim’s Response: “These reports are simply not true and it makes me so sad to have to even clarify this.”

I feel it may be a little naïve of her to think that she wouldn’t have to clarify it, given that the way her family makes money is by televising everything. But Kris Jenner is also denying the claim, and moreover, Kim is actually donating all the wedding gifts (or their equivilant value) to charity. This kind of sucks for the people who actually paid for the gifts, but at least the money they spent is going someplace where it’s needed. Sort ot.

Hmmm. Hmmmmmmm.

Of course, I also realize that the big question is actually none of these things. In reality, it’s this: Why the heck am I thinking so hard about all of this? It doesn’t really affect me. It doesn’t really affect the world in any meaningful way. And yet I still can’t stop puzzling over the situation. I may not watch any of the Kardashian shows, but somehow, they’ve managed to permeate the world so much that they make even those of us who don’t really care, care anyway. And that’s weird. Reality culture is truly a strange and somewhat frightening phenomenon.

Anyway, the divorce hasn’t stopped Kim and Co. from keeping calm and carrying on; according to People, she and Khloe have just touched down in Australia to launch their Kardashian Kollection Australian handbag line (and no, I have no idea where Kourtney is right now).

Business as usual, right, Bettys?

If she was paid any money for pics, tv, whatever and still paid out $10 million for the wedding…she still got paid! She still made money off her wedding, just because she didn’t pocket all of it, doesn’t mean she didn’t get money. UGH! Does she really think we’re all as dumb as her soon-to-be ex-husband.
