Sheesh! I felt like I was back in school when watching Tuesday night's episode of Glee, which was all about sex education. I was half expecting there to be a quiz at the end of the show!
It was Gwyneth Paltrow's second time guest-starring, reprising her role as the hot sub, Holly Holliday. The performances were great -- she sang "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)" in a smokin' leather ensemble, danced the tango to Prince's "Kiss" with Matthew Morrison, and gave a touching performance of "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac.
It's what happened between the singing-and-dancing numbers that had me saying, "Really, Ryan Murphy?" There were some funny jokes throughout ("Everybody has a random!"), but the sex ed lessons were being laid on really heavy. Almost too heavy.

I understand that Glee's audience is made up of many young teenagers who would benefit from the safe sex messages being portrayed during the episode. But, some of the scenarios were so cheesy, I was worried that Murpy's efforts were backfiring. Finn thinks he got Quinn pregnant by swimming in a hot tub? Brittany really thinks babies come from storks? Emma seriously doesn't know what "Afternoon Delight" is about?
Then again, there were some poignant and well-executed moments, such as the scene where Santana confesses her love for Brittany. "I'm a bitch because I'm angry," she says. "I'm angry because I have all of these feelings. Feelings for you, that I'm afraid of dealing with because I'm afraid of the consequences. I love you, and I don't want to be with Sam, or Finn, or any of those other guys. I just want you." Certainly there are plenty of young girls in high school who could identify with that sentiment.
So, my feelings are mixed on the episode. At times it was laughable... but nothing's funny about the overall messages it was portraying.
Tell us: what did you think of Tuesday night's episode?
