Last night was the launch party for the limited edition co-designed makeup bags by Pat McGrath for Covergirl and Le Sportsac. This is their second collaboration, and the bags, oh the bags are adorable. Colors ranged from pale pink to a deep berry.

Sizes run from itty bitty to “I’m going to Europe” big. Each bag has more than one compartment, perfect for women who carry one or more lipsticks.

Pat McGrath, who assisted in the design, has tons of experience in packing makeup. After all, she travels with 75 suitcases filled with makeup when Pat’s working on New York or the European fashion weeks. “Between shows my team does not have a moment to second-guess where they’ve packed even just a single shade of lipstick. For this year’s LeSportsac collection, I incorporated some of the same techniques for product organization that we use backstage,” says Pat McGrath, Global Creative Design Director for Covergirl. “For the 2011 collection with LeSportsac, I was inspired by the shade palette and sleek bullet of Covergirl LipPerfection lipcolor; it’s one of my backstage essentials.”

My fave of the 8 piece collection was a small square mirrored makeup bag. When you flipped it over, it had a compartment to hold a small pack of tissues. Genius!

The collection ranges in price from $25 for the small Kiss Case to the large $120 Professional Carry All tote. A few of the patent leather makeup bags could easily double as a clutch bag. I saw one pink patent one, which if you attached a gold chain to it, could easily become a chic purse.

Inside each bag is a “Pat McGrath for LeSportsac” label sewn into the lining. There’s a detachable Covergirl hangtag that features custom beauty looks and application tips from Pat.

The collection will be sold at LeSportsac boutiques and online starting this month. A coupon for Covergirl LipPerfection lipcolor will accompany each purchase.
