Congratulations to French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and French President Nicolas Sarkozy—because it’s a girl!

The French power couple welcomed a baby daughter to the world yesterday in Paris, according to Le Figaro (it’s in French, so consider yourselves warned) via People. Carl arrived at the hospital earlier in the day and finally delivered around 8pm at the Clinique de la Muette. Carla and Nicolas haven’t released the baby’s name yet, but the little girl is already making history: she’s the first child to be born to a ruling French leader since Napoleon. Wowzers!

But don’t expect to be seeing pictures of little Baby Bruni-Sarkozy anytime soon; Carla announced back in September that she won’t be allowing any photographs of her wee one to be published by the press. She said that the French people probably wouldn’t be interested in them anyway—unlike most Americans, who can’t get enough of famous baby photos. Ah well—it’s probably better for the baby anyway.

Congrats to the proud parents!
