Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Join the Big Pink Ribbon Project!
Join the Big Pink Ribbon Project this October and support breast cancer awareness!
The month of October is especially important for me, because you know I love my girls. To this day I’m still taken aback when my phone rings, and on the other end of the line I hear, “Harvey, I found a lump in my breast. What should I do?” That moment of fear and helplessness just stops me in my tracks. Every year in the United States, 250,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer, which also means that 250,000 women are seeking information, comfort and support while battling this disease. Although much has been done to try to eradicate this demon, there’s so much more we still have to do so that our mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, best girlfriends and all women globally can finally say, “I’m not afraid because there’s finally a cure for breast cancer.” I look forward to that moment with all my heart.
Although I support initiatives every month to find a cure, October is truly the month when I put on my big girl PINK panties to give my full attention to the sisterhood and medical community and to help in any way I can. We must battle on! This year I will once again give my full support to the Big Pink Ribbon Project! Renowned photographer Asa Mathat dreamed up this incredible organization and brought it into being by using his art to show the beauty of those impacted by breast cancer. While working on the project and hearing many of these women’s personal stories, Mathat realized that his artistry could empower and make a difference in their lives! So out of Mathat’s love, compassion and his insight for global community wellness, the Big Pink Ribbon Project was born.
Phase 1 of the Big Pink Ribbon Project takes a 3-D approach by photographing actual survivors and supporters in the shape of a live Big Pink Ribbon. Mathat also donates his time and talent to take individual photos of survivors and other women currently coping with the disease, as well as to gather their stories. These images and stories will be part of a longer-term project culminating in a multi-media, customizable Big Pink Ribbon book to inspire and empower others.
This year, at 2:30 pm on Saturday, October 29th at Menlo-Atherton High School’s football stadium in California, Mathat and women from all walks of life who have been affected by this disease, as well as other women who support the cause, will gather together to create and photograph a living Big Pink Ribbon! You don’t need to be a survivor to participate; come out and be in the Ribbon to support those who are! Mathat has heard so many stories from loved ones and strangers this year that he’s entitling this October’s Big Pink Ribbon, “TACKLING Breast Cancer.” The participants are asked to arrive in bras and boy shorts. Big Pink Ribbon will be supplying pink football jerseys and pink NFL footballs for the shoot. The women will align in a Big Pink Ribbon on the football field, and Mathat will use a helicopter-propelled camera to rise above the women and take the picture.
There will also be fun festivities surrounding the shoot: A combination pre-party and sign-in within walking distance from the shoot and a post-party at which Mathat will be taking artistic studio shots of the participants draped in pink SHEEX. SHEEX has donated 420 yards of their fabulous material for this shoot. If you’ve never slept on Michelle Marciniak and Susan Walvius’s SHEEX then you must check them out! Two incredible women with an amazing idea created a fantastic product that will forever improve your sleep! Participants will be receiving SHEEX discount codes amongst other goodies.
Furthermore, all participants can attend a pre-fitting party with me at Nordstrom’s in the Stanford Mall in Palo Alto for complimentary bra fittings and fun! The fitting specialists at Nordstrom are incredible; Charlotte, whom I’ve renamed “The Bra Whisperer “will be leading her incredible team. Prizes and a bra that truly fits? Fabulous!
BettyConfidential.com, Fish &; Richardson, Angel Heart Cakes, Coco Libre, Net Business Consulting & Solutions, FreshWaterHaven.org and the fabulous Sharon Beswick are also sponsors. Want to get involved and be part of this incredible day? RSVP to the event on Facebook or email Kathi@BigPinkRibbon.org. Big Pink Ribbon will post when all the spaces are filled.
But to spread the word, I need your help! Will you repost this on your Facebook, Google+, Twitter or any other social media avenues you use? Getting the word out will help us help all our sisters!
I just know a cure is just around the corner! We’re almost there!
A PINK KISS TO ALL MY GIRLS!!
