Blast from the Past: The Spice Girls Are Back for the Olympics
The Olympics have reunited the nineties girl group we’re still obsessing over.
Pull out your old stash of Spice Girls memorabilia, ladies, because the gals are back! Proving that a good marketing ploy friendship never ends, the girl power group of the nineties is slated to perform at the Olympic Closing Ceremony in August. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re in it for the long haul, but we’re still keeping our fingers crossed.
According to the Telegraph, Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) will take the stage after the games conclude on August 12, 2012. Along with George Michael, The Who, Take That, and Jessie J, they’ll serenade the crowd with two of their biggest hits.
Hint: The UK news outlet mentioned that it might just be “Wannabe.” We don’t know about you, but the mere possibility has us reminiscing about days gone by spent dressing up as Baby Spice and belting out tunes into a homemade cardboard microphone.
Didn’t think it could get any better? It does (really!). Apparently, certain sources have told reporters that Halliwell will strut around stage in the Union Jack dress she donned at the 1997 Brit Awards. The barely-there mini dress has been a fan favorite ever since – just ask Google.
This is one reunion we’d slip on our platform boots for. Now who wants to fund our trip to London?
