Celebrities who wish they could keep their scandals on the down-low might have a thing or two to learn from Armie Hammer. The Social Network star was apparently arrested at a border patrol checkpoint in West Texas after a drug-sniffing dog found marijuana in his car—IN NOVEMBER. And somehow, he managed to keep it out of the news until now. Given that the general public snaps up any scandalous celebrity news like a hungry tiger mauls a water buffalo, that’s pretty impressive.

Here’s how it went down: According to the Daily Mail, arrest records show that Armie had 0.02 ounces of pot, three spiked cookies, and one incredibly magic brownie in his possession when he was nabbed on November 20 in Sierra Blanca, a Texas town a few miles from the Mexican border. Notably, this is the same checkpoint where Snoop Dog and Willie Nelson were caught for the same thing. Since Armie was carrying well under 4 ounces—the amount necessary for a felony charge—El Paso's District Attorney decided not to prosecute him; instead, he spent a day in jail and paid a $1,000 bond before going on his merry little way.

Mostly I’m just amazed that Armie (or his PR people, or whoever) somehow avoided the whole to-do turning into a massive scandal at the time that it happened. It took two solid months for some dedicated snoop to dig up the dirt, and to be honest, while it’s sort of amusing, it’s a pretty tame crime. There’s nothing quite like being arrested for a handful of cookies.

Well, congrats, Armie—you have fabulous PR people. And I hope those cookies were worth it.
