Will Madonna’s Mini-Me, Lourdes, Be a Bigger Star Than Her Mom?
The 13-year-old fashionista is already setting style trends and inspiring everyone — including her famous mother!
Sporting a grommeted leather jacket, multiple strands of beads, and a black miniskirt with ripped tights, Lourdes Ciccone Leon had everyone wondering “Who’s that girl?” as she took to the streets of New York City on February 20. Her punk-inspired outfit was not unlike the look her superstar mother, Madonna, rocked when she kicked off her music career in the early ’80s. And while the icon inspired a legion of lace-gloved and rubber-braceleted Madonna wannabes, her 13-year-old daughter has found her own fans in the Lourdes hordes, who follow her every fashionable move.
“Lourdes can wear clothes like no one I’ve ever seen,” a Manhattan insider tells BettyConfidential. “I know young girls who go out and buy things that she wears running around Central Park and to school. She is leading trends in New York.”
Even Rebecca Romijn has taken notice. “She’s doing new wave postmodern Punky Brewster geek chic,” says the model-turned-actress. “She’s one to watch.” And people are definitely watching. Adds the insider, “One girl got the exact same pair of glasses the day after Lourdes wore them. Lourdes is a hip and cool trendsetter.”
Among her style staples: retro Ray-Bans, skinny scarves, micro minis, neon Spandex leggings and boxy blazers. Not surprisingly, she often raids items from her mother’s wardrobe. “She wears the same sizes as me now, so she steals my clothes, my shoes, she’s constantly in my closets,” admits the 51-year-old performer.
Though Lourdes has been spotted strolling around town in $600 Christian Louboutins, she looks equally well-heeled in chain-store choices. “I spoil her with love and American Apparel and Urban Outfitters,” confesses her father, fitness trainer-turned-actor Carlos Leon, 42. “She’s my princess.”
