As a guy, I can tell you that we generally do not care about Valentines Day. The only reason why we make a big deal out of it is to prevent 6 months of nagging.
However, there is a holiday specifically for men who have given a wonderful Valentines Day to their woman, and it happens on March 14. Its called 'Steak and a B***J** Day. That consists of 3 things, a steak meal cooked to his liking (or his favorite man meal), a BJ, and finally, (no offense to any of you ladies)peace and quiet for one whole day. If he doesn't try to make you happy, he doesn't receive his day, so a win-win for both parties.
Don't worry about getting him a gift as long as you either mention SBJ Day or he already knows about it.
