Gov. Mark Sanford’s political career may be going down in flames, according to CNN.

South Carolina GOP Chairwoman Karen Floyd will participate in a conference call with members of the state Republican executive committee at 5:00 p.m. this afternoon to request that Sanford steps down from his current position.

This meeting comes exactly one day after Republicans in the South Carolina House of Representatives sent a letter to Sanford, demanding that he resign due to his destructive actions of late.

Two weeks prior to this development Sanford rejected his lieutenant governor's advice to resign for the sake of the state’s image.

"I am not going to be railroaded out of this office by political opponents or folks that were never fans of mine in the first place," Sanford had stated at a news conference.
