The controversial episode depicting a threesome between several of the main characters on Gossip Girl hasn’t even aired yet, but already parental groups have lashed out at the popular CW TV show, calling the prospect of a ménage à trois “reckless and irresponsible.”

Although the network has said that its target audience for GG is not teens, but rather 18-to-34-year-old women, organizations such as the Parent Television Council have called the network’s claims “laughable,” especially given the show’s advertising which has included teen slang like “OMFG” as well as the slogan “Every parent’s worst nightmare” to describe it.

“Images of teenagers in sexual scenarios are nothing new. But the idea of a threesome is a fairly new phenomenon that has previously only been associated with adult films," said Melissa Henson, the director of communications and public education for PTC.

"The network is giving it a sense of normalcy and depicting it as nothing unusual and suggesting there are no particular consequences for this type of behavior,” she continued, adding that the group would file a formal complaint, if they feel the episode in question violates FCC standards.
