PopEater is reporting that Paul Haggis, who directed the award-winning film Million Dollar Baby, has resigned his membership in the Church of Scientology.
In a letter to the leader of the organization, Haggis revealed his main reason for leaving the celebrity-friendly religion: Scientology's support of Proposition 8 in California banning gay marriage.
"I told you I could not, in good conscience, be a member of an organization where gay-bashing was tolerated ... In that first conversation, back at the end of October of last year, you told me you were horrified, that you would get to the bottom of it and 'heads would roll,’” Haggis wrote to leader Tommy Davis. “You promised action. Ten months passed. No action was forthcoming."
Haggis also alleged that the church is “cowardly” for refusing to condemn the actions of “these bigots, hypocrites and homophobes.” (PopEater.com)
